I'm toying with the idea of buying a fast/ish car for upto 20 k. My past experience of fast cars is 3 sapphire cosworths all RWD and a UK turbo 2000 imprezza. After that i've owned pick up's due to the nature of my work.
I am open to ideas on cars and would like the car to hold as much value as possible, I've always liked M5's but am open to any ideas. Will sapphires rise like the 3 door and escorts have ?
Many thanks

Honda civic FD2 type R would be a shout, will leave you some change from £20k and hold it's value well, they've been steadily increasing.
Whether this is "fast" enough is fairly subjective, but they aren't slow!

BMW M135i or M235i fits the bill.
Quick (4.6s 0-62), well under £20k, great engine.

My thought too, provided you don't have any mobility issues, fun, fast, beautiful handling and unlikely to depreciate much if at all.

Another vote for the 135/140.
A 140 should be doable for £20k.
Love mine; it's a fab engine and covers multiple bases.

Since holding value is important, I'd suggest a mid 2000s Evo or imported Impreza (i.e. not a 2.5)
Some properly nice, rare machines available for £20k. These guys seem to go under the radar for some reason:

Lots of e92 m3s under 20k now if you want some V8 funtimes.

I have a ridiculously modified Megane up for sale, previous owner poured £30k into the build. Ridiculous track weapon, and good track cars do tend to hold their value well

As above, I think the manuals will hold their value better than the DCT cars though? I know it's a far better box than the SMG in the E46 but it's still not going to be the enthusiasts choice?

I never noticed that, wish mine had it.
What's up with the interiors that you don't like? I'm not massively keen on red leather though.

How fast? And is power/speed the main thing you are after?
What sort of driving will you be doing and where?
Are the driving sensations important to you?
Personally I'd rather a Rover V8 powered TVR over a BMW M5 for driving thrills. And it wouldn't bother me in the least if the BMW was more powerful or could put in better lap times.

Z4M Coupe would be a good shout, values are holding firm, decent examples are anywhere from £18k plus. Legendary M3 engine in a smaller package.
